Plumbing Emergency, Auckland

When you need the help of a plumber, it may feel like everything is an emergency. At the very least, everything seems like an urgent job. You don’t want plumbing leaks, clogged pipes or blocked toilets left for any longer than necessary.

But it’s helpful to know the difference between standard plumbing services and emergency plumbing services. It’s also helpful to know if these are dealt with differently by your plumbing company and if they charge differently for them.

For starters, it’s important to realise all the things a good, reliable West Auckland plumber can help with. At Laser Plumbing Te Atatu, we can help with plumbing, hot water systems and repairs, new roofs and roof repairs, drainage and drain unblocking, bathroom renovations, gas fitting, and commercial plumbing.

That’s right … we can help you with so much more than overflowing toilets. But not all of these services constitute an emergency.

We consider a plumbing problem to be a plumbing emergency when it meets one (or more) of these criteria:

  1. The problem is causing damage to your property
  2. The problem presents the possibility of human injury
  3. You just want the problem done as quickly as possible

A plumbing problem that causes damage to your property is likely to be a plumbing emergency

Some of the issues here include:

  • Leaky pipe, burst pipe or overflowing pipe – if left alone, this may cause serious and expensive water damage to your floors, walls or ceiling (not to mention wasting water and unnecessarily adding to your Auckland water bill)
  • Overflowing or blocked toilet – it’s great if you can temporarily get this under control and help prevent water damage, but if you can’t, you may need to make an emergency call-out
  • Blocked sink or clogged drain – if you have another sink/shower/tub you can use, then this may not need an emergency plumber; but if you know you’ve dropped something precious or valuable down the drain and you want it retrieved quickly before it’s washed down further, then you may want us to come out straight away
  • Blocked gutters, spouting or downpipes – it’s essential to keep your roof gutters, spouting and downpipes maintained and clear so that water can run off the roof easily; if this cannot happen correctly, you run the risk of damage to your walls and roof; the team at Laser Plumbing Te Atatu has over 30 years of experience in Auckland

A plumbing problem that may cause human injury is likely to be a plumbing emergency

Some of the issues here include:

  • Loss of water to your property – we rely on clean water for so many of our daily needs, so if the water shuts off altogether, first check with your water provider; if they tell you there aren’t any issues with the mains water, there may be a problem with the plumbing or drainage of just your property; in this instance, give us a call and we’ll get our emergency team out as quickly as possible
  • Gas hob, gas hot water problemsgive us a call right away if you have any problems with your gas hob/stove or gas hot water heating; due to the specialised and possibly dangerous nature of working around gas, gas appliances should only be worked on by a certified gasfitter, such as the team at Laser Plumbing Te Atatu (please note, if you smell gas and suspect there is a gas leak, we recommend you follow the advice of WorkSafe)
  • Overflowing drain – these problems can be unsafe if there is harmful sewage or waste that you may be exposed to or that may contaminate the potable water that you use for drinking, washing or cooking
  • Leaky pipe – depending on the size of the surrounding area, overflowing water may create a dangerous hazard that could lead to harmful falls
  • Waste disposal unit repairs or replacement – if your waste disposal unit or InSinkErator® is not working properly, stop using it immediately and give us a call; we can assess whether it warrants an emergency call-out
  • Lack of hot water, problems with hot water cylinder – we rely on hot water for proper washing and disinfecting, so if you lose hot water unexpectedly (that is, there hasn’t been a power outage), there may be an issue with your water heating system that needs to be looked at right way
